Currículum vitae

Lorena García-Hevia is graduated as Bachelor in Biology from the University of Oviedo and has Master Degree in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine at the University of Cantabria. PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Cantabria. During her thesis, she published several papers as first author in prestigious journals in the Nanomedicine field. These results have been collected in her Thesis which qualification was outstanding "cum laude". In addition, she has been awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize and Juan María Parés award (University of Cantabria). She obtained a postdoctoral position at the Stephenson Cancer Center of the University of Oklahoma, USA, where she was working in the study of the anti-tumoral effects of gold nanoparticles in cancer cell spheroids. Her second postdoctoral position was at the International Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), in Braga (Portugal), the first International Intergovernmental Organization (OIG) in Europe focused on Nanosciences and Nanotechnology. Her research was focused on developing and validating strategies of selective magnetic hyperthermia therapies in different in vitro and in vivo approaches. Finally, she did a postdoctoral stay at the Biorobotica Institute (Pisa, Italy) working in regenerative medicine through the use of different nanomaterials. She is the principal investigator of a project about COVID-19 and she has participated in several international projects (European H2020, National Institute of Health in USA, Austin-Portugal…). She has participated in more than 20 national and international congresses. She obtained a postdoctoral contract “Sara Borrell” from Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
