4Currículum vitae
Dr. Miguel García Iglesias (MGI) finished his undergraduate studies (2005) at the Autónoma University of Madrid (UAM) while working one year in the group of “Organometalic chemistry directed Towards Organic Synthesis” supervised by Prof. Diego. J. Cárdenas where he obtained his Master Degree. In 2006, after being awarded with one of the most prestigious fellowships conceded by the “Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia” due to his outstanding marks, he started a PhD degree at the UAM under the supervision of Prof. Tomás Torres. The research carried out by MGI during his PhD was mainly focused on the molecular, polymeric and supramolecular multifunctional materials based on porphirinoids. Moreover, during his predoctoral period he developed one fruitful internship in the research group of Prof. David A. Leigh (UK). The applicant obtained his PhD degree in 2011 with the degree certificate "cum laude". In 2010 MGI got a University Teaching Assistant position at the UAM. After a short postdoctoral contract at the UAM, he moved to the Technological University of Eindhoven (Netherlands) as a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. E.W. Meijer while continuing with his teaching duties at UAM (2012-2015). During this time, he was immersed in the science of self-assembly developing independently his own research programs focused on the use of non-covalent synthesis for accessing functional, nanostructured materials. In May 2015 MGI rejoined UAM, firstly as Teaching Assistant and later he held the prestigious position Juan de la Cierva-Incorporacion (2017-2019). Moreover, he was appointed as junior researcher at IMDEA Nanoscience. Finally, in 2020 he moved to Cantabria University at QuIPRe Department as project leader after being awarded with the talent recruitment STAR2 grant. MGI is developing three research lines focus on the design, preparation and study of multifunctional nanostructured supramolecular materials: i) Study of self-assembled columnar materials exhibiting both ferroelectric, semiconducting properties. ii) Design and study of multidimensional nanostructured materials with tailored (photo)catalytic interstices. iii) accessing new dynamic multivalent scaffolds for photodynamic therapy and drug delivery. His publications accumulate 1000 citations, providing an h-index of 18, which reflects the quality and impact of his research lines.
