Álvaro del Real is a Posdoctoral researcher at the University of Cantabria, in Santander, Spain. He is graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Murcia in 2014. In 2015 he obtained a Master’s degree in Biomedicine and Molecular Oncology at the Univeristy of Oviedo, where he completed his master's thesis in the cancer epigenetics laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Mario F. Fraga. After that, he completed his doctoral thesis with an outstanding 'Cum Laude' rating and international mention (year 2019) in the actual group (iESQUEMA), under the supervision of Professor Jose A. Riancho. During his PhD student period, he was in a three months instance at the Imperial College London Center for Translational and Experimental Medicine (ICTEM). In addition, he has been awarded the Prize for the best doctoral thesis, in the area of Health Sciences, at the XX Juan Mª Parés Social Council Research Awards 2020. After his PhD thesis, he obtained the Augusto Gonzalez de Linares posdoctoral fellowship, and subsequently the Margarita Salas posdoctoral fellowship, both at the University of Cantabria. His research is focused on bone biology, prevalent bone diseases (osteoporosis and osteoarthritis) and other bone pathologies, such as, hypophosphatasia. Current research lines include translational projects, specially related to the genomics and epigenomics of bone related disorders. Nowadays, he has published 26 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the Spanish Society for Research on Osteoporosis and Mineral Metabolism (SEIOMM). In his last year, he was in a whole year instance at the Galician Foundation of Xenomic Medicine (FPGMX) and the Santiago Node of the National Genotyping Center (CEGEN), between years 2022 and 2023.
