Diego San Felipe Riba

Diego San Felipe Riba is Chief Data Officer for the VALDATA project, bringing expertise in biomedical data analysis, neuroinflammation research, and translational science. He holds a PhD in Biomedical Research from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), where he also earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology (with a mention in Health Biology) and a Master’s degree in Translational Medicine.
His research career began in 2017 as part of the UCM-951579 group “ Pathophysiology of Multiorgan Failure: Therapeutic Approaches .” There, he developed extensive experience in animal behavior testing, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, image analysis and processing, biostatistics, and data management. His doctoral research focused on central nervous system alterations induced by systemic inflammation, contributing to a deeper understanding of neurodegeneration and glial activation.
In 2020, he was awarded a competitive research contract from the Community of Madrid to work on a project at the School of Biological Sciences (UCM), followed by a predoctoral fellowship from UCM to support his PhD at the Department of Physiology (School of Medicine, UCM). In 2023, he received a mobility grant for a short research stay at the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation (Manchester, UK).
His work has resulted in five peer-reviewed publications, one patent application, and numerous presentations at national and international conferences. Alongside his research, he has been actively involved in academic teaching at the Department of Physiology (School of Medicine, UCM), delivering over 180 hours of practical instruction, co-supervising student research projects, and contributing to several educational innovation initiatives.
