Currículum vitae

Professor Carlos Fernandez-Viadero (born on June 17, 1959) received his medical degree in 1982 from the University of Cantabria, Spain. He received the Extraordinary (Outstanding) Medical Degree Award at University of Cantabria. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla, in Santander, Spain in 1986. He obtained his PhD in 1991 by his work about neurobiology in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at University of Cantabria. He obtained Medical Speciality in Geriatrics in 2001. He performed a short stay with professor V. Hachinsky as Clinical Visitor of Dementia Unit at the University Hospital of Werstern Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada in 2001. Currently, Dr Fernandez-Viadero is a Professor from 1993 of Biology, Psychophysiology and Psychopharmacology at the UNED (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia) in Cantabria, and Collaborating Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at University of Cantabria. From 1989 to 2008 he was develop clinical activities in Geriatrics and Psychogeriatrics in public (Regional Governtment of Cantabria Nursing Homes) non profit nursing homes with 250 beds. Tutor and Professor of Geriatrics for medical residents for 12 years From 2008 has done the clinical activity in geriatrics and psychogeriatrics in Rehabilitation Psychiatric Unit from the Department of Health of Regional Government of Cantabria at the Hospital Universitario Marques de Valdecilla, Santander, Spain. At the present he is Regional Coordinator for the Development of Chronic Care Plan in the Region of Cantabria (Spain). Research lines related to geriatrics, cognitive impairment, nutrition and aging, in humans and animal models. Multiple presentations and lectures at Meetings and Congress of Geriatrics and Gerontology. Various chapters of books. More than 40 articles published in Pubmed (can be searched with the author term Fernández-Viadero). He has obtained Spanish grants supported by different entities and actually are the representative of Regional Government of Cantabria in the European Union Joint Action for Chronic Diseases "Chrodis Plus". Actually member of Editorial Board of Current Gerontology and Geriatrics Research.
