José María de la Torre is M.D. in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Salamanca (1985-1991). He gained his PhD degree cum laude in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Cantabria in 2001. He is specialised in Cardiology in the Cardiology Service of the Marques de Valdecilla University Hospital of Santander (1993-1997). He got a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology (1998-2000) and Cardiology research fellow at Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY, USA (1996). Since 2000 at present, he is developing care and research activity in the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit of the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital in Santander. He is Cardiology resident tutor. He is Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, member of the accreditation committee of the European Society of Cardiology in 2009-2011, member of the scientific committee of the Spanish Society of Cardiology and of the sections of interventional cardiology and ischemic heart disease, member of the board of directors of the interventional cardiology section from 2010 to 2012. Furthermore, he is member of the editorial committee of the Revista Española de Cardiología and Consultant Editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Interventions. Dr. de la Torre is faculty of the ESC, ACC, PCR and TCT international congresses, associate Director of the TCT and member of the international advisory panel for Medtronic, Boston Scientific and Volcano-Phillips. He is Director-Coordinator of the ESTROFA and LITRO study group and Affiliated with the Harvard-MIT Biomedical Engineering Center, Cambridge, MA, USA (researcher-visiting professor from August-2016 to July-2017). Publications - 57 original articles in international publications with an impact factor. - 53 original articles in national publications with impact factor. - 102 communications to international congresses and 98 to national congresses. - 4 chapters in 3 books of international scope. - 7 chapters in 5 national books. - Co-editor of a book on intravascular ultrasound.
