Currículum vitae

Dr. Fernanda Genre Romero obtained her degree in Genetics from the National University of Misiones (Argentina) in 2005, following a Bachelor’s thesis on the role of mannose-binding lectin in HIV-1 childhood infection conducted at the J.P. Garrahan Pediatric Hospital. Her Argentinian degree was officially recognized as equivalent to a Spanish Biology degree by the Spanish Ministry of Education in 2010. Between 2006 and 2008, she worked as a pre-doctoral fellow at the Laboratory of Radioisotopes (University of Buenos Aires), participating in cancer-related molecular and cellular biology projects. In 2008, she joined the Laboratory of Immunopathology at the University of Cantabria (Spain), where she earned both her Master’s (2009) and PhD (2013) degrees in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine. Her doctoral research focused on the role of ApoE in inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis, providing her with experience in experimental models of autoimmune diseases and molecular and cellular biology techniques. Between 2012-2023, Dr. Genre has been part of the Epidemiology, Genetics and Atherosclerosis Research Group on Systemic Inflammatory Diseases (IDIVAL, Spain), where she coordinated a research line studying cardiovascular risk biomarkers in spondyloarthritis. She was awarded a Sara Borrell postdoctoral fellowship (ISCIII, 2016–2018) and served as principal investigator for national and regional projects (ISCIII PI20/00059, IDIVAL NVAL17/10), and coordinating a multicenter research project on axial spondyloarthritis and cardiovascular risk involving large patient cohorts. During this period, she contributed to numerous national and international projects funded by ISCIII, the European Union/EFPIA, and FOREUM, among others. In 2022, she obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Trials from the University of Valencia. Currently, Dr. Genre is Project Manager of the Medical Oncology Group at IDIVAL, where she is in charge of the management of several European initiatives in the field of cancer (eCAN, JANE, CraNE, EUCanScreen, EUnetCCC, JANE-2, eCAN Plus, PCM JA), as well as national and regional research projects, and also gives support to the clinical team for the request of funding in different national and international calls. Overall, she has done research in immunology, oncology and epidemiology and genetics of autoimmune diseases. As a result of her research experience, she is author of 111 articles, 43 of them published in first quartile journals and being first/co-first author and/or senior/corresponding author in 53 of them.
