Jesús María Mirapeix Serrano

Jesús Mirapeix Serrano got his Bachelor Degree in 1997 and his Master Degree (both in Telecommunications) in 2000. He also got his PhD in 2007 with a thesis focused on the use of plasma optical spectroscopy in the quality monitoring of welding processes. This work was recognized as the ?best thesis in engineering? in the 2009 edition of the Premios de Investigación del Consejo Social de la UC. Since 2012 he has been working as Associate Professor in the Photonics Engineering Group of the University of Cantabria, developing both teaching and researching tasks. He has been involved in courses related to optics and photonics, renewable energies and creativity and innovation. He has also participated in several innovation teaching projects related to gamification and flipped classroom (among others) and in master classes of creativity techniques, mainly for CISE (Centro Internacional Santander Emprendimiento) and for other regional organizations. In this subject he has also been involved in a MOOC via the MiriadaX platform, currently in its 6th edition. This course was awarded in the I Premio Iberoamericano MiríadaX-SEGIB. He has collaborated in research projects funded by the European Union (2), and by national entities (20). He has also participated in 9 research contracts with public and private companies. He is author/co-author of more than 30 papers in international journals (h index=11 (Scopus)), of more than 70 contributions to international conferences and has collaborated in 5 patents. Nowadays his research interests are focused on distributed sensor systems based on Brillouin scattering. He is co-founder of Sadiq Engineering, a spin-off devoted to the development of industrial monitoring systems based on photonic technology. He has acted as the technical secretary in the 23rd International Conference on Optical Fiber Sensors, and is the secretary of the UIMP Summer School ISLiST: International Summer School on Light Sciences and Technologies. He has also been a member of the Quality Commission of the Bachelor Degree (in Telecomunications) and of the Commission for the Verification of the Bachelor and Master Degrees, all of them at the University of Cantabria.
