Alfredo Franco Pérez

Assistant Professor at the Applied Physics Department of the University of Cantabria (Spain) since 2019. PhD in Physics by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Mexico) in 2007, conducting research on the non-linear optical properties of nanostructured hybrid organic-inorganic sol-gel films. Postdoctoral and professional experience performing multidisciplinary, basic and applied research based on the experimental design and synthesis of nanomaterials with tailored optical properties for biomedical applications, from both theoretical and experimental approaches. Professional experience teaching, working for industry and performing science outreach. Distinguished as National Researcher (Mexico, 2009-2015) and Marie Curie Researcher (European Commission, 2014-2015). His research interests are mainly focused on the fundamental physics behind the optical properties of nanomaterials and their application to biosensing. He has published 20 papers indexed in JCR journals, 10 international peer-reviewed proceedings and one chapter in a specialized book. He is co-author of four registered patents and he has shared the results of his research through 95 presentations in specialized international conferences as well as through several science outreach activities. He has been principal investigator of two competitive projects and research collaborator in other 15 competitive projects.
