Víctor García is a fifth-year Neurosurgery Resident at the Neurosurgery Department and Spine Surgery Unit at Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla (HUMV) in Santander, Spain, and a researcher in the “Cell Signaling and Therapeutic Targets in Cancer” research group at IDIVAL, with a personal clinical and research interest in neuro-oncology. Upon completion of medical school at the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, he underwent neurosurgical training at HUMV, where he has been actively engaged in surgical planning, clinical case discussions, and research projects.
He is also currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Cantabria under the supervision of Dr. Carlos Velásquez and Dr. Alfredo Franco, focusing on the project “Development and Validation of an Integrated System of Optical Biosensors and Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy for the Identification of Tumor Tissues in Glioblastoma Surgeries.”
As part of his specialization, he has completed two clinical rotations in neuro-oncology and pediatric neurosurgery:
· A three-month rotation (September-November 2023) in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville, under the supervision of Dr. Javier Márquez and Dr. Mónica Rivero, where he developed skills in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of pediatric neurosurgical conditions.
· A three-month clinical rotation (February–April 2025) at King’s College Hospital in London, focusing on neurosurgical oncology, under the supervision of Dr. Ranjeev Bhangoo, Dr. Francesco Vergani, and Professor Keyoumars Ashkan, where he gained extensive experience in the surgical management of brain tumors, advanced neuro-oncological techniques, and intraoperative mapping strategies.
Víctor has been recognized for his academic and research contributions with several awards. Notably, he was awarded the Gebro Pharma SENEC Neuro-Oncology Grant, given by the Sociedad Española de Neurocirugía (SENEC), for the article “Discriminating Glioblastoma from Peritumoral Tissue by a Nanohole Array-Based Optical and Label-Free Biosensor,” published in Biosensors (2023). In addition, he received the Best Video Award at the SENEC 2022 Congress.
Víctor has presented clinical cases and research findings at professional congresses, including SENEC (Sociedad Española de Neurocirugía) and SNO (Society for NeuroOncology).
