Antonio García, MD, PhD in Medicine. He received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award by the University of Cantabria (1996), Santander, Spain. He is also a University Expert in Health Service Management (2014) and a Clinical Neurophysiology specialist after four years of training (1982 to 1986) at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, University Hospital "Marqués de Valdecilla", Santander, Spain. Dr. García was elected President of Spanish Society of Clinical Neurophysiology (SENFC) from 2015-2019. He currently serves as SENFC Council’s Past-President and belongs to of the EMG Working Group of this scientific society. Career Profile Dr. García works as clinical neurophysiology staff at the University Hospital "Marqués de Valdecilla" (Santander, Spain) since 1990. In this hospital, he has been former head of the Clinical Neurophysiology Department (2010 to 2015) and Tutor of clinical neurophysiology residents (1994 to 2003). He has been Convenor of Electromyography Course of the European Chapter of the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (2009), and invited professor in the Course of Neurography at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology, University Hospital Uppsala, Sweden (2014). He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and book-chapters, including articles in high-impact journals on Clinical Neurophysiology and Neurology. He is co-author of the “Handbook of the Electromyography Practice” edited by the SENFC (2019). Among other awards, he received the “Alberto Rábano National Prize” convened by the Romanillos Foundation (Madrid, Spain) for the most outstanding Doctoral Thesis on clinical neurosciences in 1996, and the “Neurogenetics Award” sponsored by the Spanish Society of Neurology (Barcelona, Spain 1998). Research Interest He has collaborated with the “European Integrated proyect on spinocerebellar ataxias” (Universitätsklinikum, Tübingen), the “Charcot-Marie-Tooth 1A disease Project” (Max-Planck Institute, Göttingen), and the “International Guillain-Barré Outcome Study” (Erasmus MC, Rotterdam). The main scientific interest of Dr. García are the electrodiagnostic studies of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly the hereditary motor & sensory neuropathies (Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and related disorders) and the hereditary ataxias. He is also focused on the electroneurography of acute inflammatory neuropathies (Guillain-Barré Syndome subtypes and variants) and the postnatal nerve conduction maturation process of peripheral nerves. He is member of the Neurodegenerative Diseases Group (IDIVAL and CIBERNED).
