I’m currently in my third year of Rheumatology residency at Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla in Santander, where I’ve developed a strong interest in systemic autoimmune diseases—especially Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to get involved in several research projects with a multidisciplinary team, working alongside colleagues from Rheumatology, Hematology, Immunology, Obstetrics, and Internal Medicine. My main research focus so far has been the application and clinical relevance of the new 2023 ACR/EULAR classification criteria for APS. I’ve co-authored several studies in this field on Q1 journals (“Are the new 2023 ACR/EULAR classification criteria suitable for advancing the knowledge of obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome?” on Autoimmun Rev and “Impact of the 2023 ACR/EULAR classification criteria in women with primary antiphospholipid syndrome during pregnancy” on Diagnostics), and recently published as first author in Journal of Clinical Medicine (Q1) an article analyzing these criteria in patients with retinal vein occlusion: “Impact of the 2023 ACR/EULAR Antiphospholipid Syndrome Criteria on Retinal Vein Occlusion Patients”. In addition to research, I’ve helped coordinate and update our hospital’s APS patient database, which has been essential for developing our studies. These experiences have deepened my interest in clinical research and strengthened my motivation to pursue a PhD in the coming years.
