Armando Raul Guerra Ruiz is an Associate Specialist in Laboratory Medicine at University Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla. He holds an MSc in Biochemistry from the University of Havana and a PhD in Molecular Biology cum laude from the University of Cantabria. He is a board-certified Specialist in Clinical Analysis with a strong background in the identification and evaluation of novel biomarkers of disease, particularly in hepatology, dyslipidemias, and neurology. Currently, he is developing expertise in high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and metabolomics.
Dr. Guerra Ruiz's research focuses on the biochemical assessment of liver disease, lipid metabolism disorders, and neurodegenerative conditions. He has been actively involved in multiple research projects funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, with a particular emphasis on biomarker discovery and clinical laboratory applications. He also has extensive expertise in quality control processes in clinical diagnostics, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory testing.
He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and has presented his findings at numerous national and international conferences. His H-index is 10, reflecting the impact of his contributions to clinical biochemistry and laboratory medicine.
Currently, he serves as the President of the Commission on "Biochemical Assessment of Liver Disease" within the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (SeMedLab). He is also invited professor for the course "The Laboratory in Clinical Diagnosis" at the Medicine degree program at University of Cantabria. His expertise also includes R&D management, with a solid record of accomplishment in both national and international research collaborations.
