MD at the University of Cantabria in 1983 and PhD at the University of Cantabria in April 1986. Assistant Professor of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology of the University of Cantabria 1987- 1990, Associate Professor of Physiology of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, University of Cantabria 1991-2016 and Full Professor of Physiology of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Cantabria since June 2016. Teaching activity: Human Physiology in Medical School, course coordinator. Human Physiology in the University College of Nursing. Human Physiology in the University College of Physiotherapy, course coordinator, and Human Physiology in the University School of Logopedics (Speech Language Pathology), course coordinator. Postgraduate teaching in different doctorate courses at the University of Cantabria (Physiology Doctoral Program, Chronobiology Doctoral Program, Biomedicine Doctoral Program and PhD Program in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine). Research activity: All research activity has been focused on the study of melatonin and its antitumor actions. After completing the doctoral thesis at the University of Cantabria, he completed a year of postdoctoral training in Tucson, University of Arizona, where he started in vitro studies with human mammary tumor cells. He has been developing his research work as a member of the research group called "Melatonin and Breast Cancer", Department of Physiology, University of Cantabria. A research group that is also part of the Institute of Sanitary Research Valdecilla (IDIVAL) and of which it is the Researcher Responsible since February 2011. During this time the group has obtained grants awards of national (FISS84-1140; PB89-0377; PB92-0831; PM97-0042; SAF2001-0599; BFI2003-06305; PI042603; SAF2007-60659; SAF2010-19759; SAF2013-42012-P; SAF2016-77103-P and Areces Foundation) and international funding agencies (CT94-0036, European Commission; SAF95-1445-CE). He has made 117 publications between articles with and without impact factor, book chapters, revisions, etc. During these years he has presented 86 communications to national and international congresses. His works have been cited in more than 3430 articles (google scholar) in specialized journals (index h = 33) and many of the communications to congresses presented are lectures made at the invitation of the organizing committees: Barcelona 1985; Salamanca 1986; Tubingen, Germany 1987; Sicilia 1990; Paris 1992; Sitges 1996; Blaubeuren, Germany 1997, Colorado (USA) at FASEB Summer Research Conferences 2009, Guangzhou (China) at the Word Cancer Congress 2011 - Breast Cancer Conference, New York 2013 and Birmingham (UK) 2015 at the World Congress on Breast Cancer. Management experience: Secretary of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology (1987-1988, 2003-2016). Head of Department of Physiology and Pharmacology since February 2016. Director of the Animal Facilities and Experimentation Service of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cantabria from 1990 to 2000. Member of the Bioethics Committee of the University of Cantabria since 2010. Member of the Editorial Board of Dataset Papers in Medicine: Oncology, Journal of Tumor and Clinical Cancer Drugs.
