José Luís Hernández Hernández

Prof. José L. Hernández is the Head of the Internal Medicine Department at the University Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla (Santander, Spain). He is the coordinator of the Lipid and Vascular Risk Unit. He is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Department of Medicine and Psychiatry of the University of Cantabria. His research is focused on clinical, epidemiology, and genetics of osteoporosis and bone metabolic disorders. He also works on the relationships between metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors and bone mineral diseases as well as chronic inflammatory disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, connective tissue diseases, psoriasis, or hidradenitis suppurativa, and the effect of biologic therapy on metabolic and cardiovascular factors in these disorders. He has participated in several funding public or private projects as PI. He is a researcher of the Immunopatology Group of the Research Institute Valdecilla (IDIVAL). He has published more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals and over 30 book chapters. His current H-index is 36. He acts as a referee for many journals in the field of Endocrinology, Bone and Cardiovascular diseases and is a member of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine, European Society of Internal Medicine, International Society of Internal Medicine, Spanish Society for Research on Osteoporosis and Mineral Metabolism, International Bone and Mineral Society, International Osteoporosis Foundation, Spanish Atherosclerosis Society, International Atherosclerosis Society and the European Atherosclerosis Society.
