Nerea Martínez Magunacelaya

Dr. Nerea Martínez Magunacelaya is PhD in Biology from the University of the Basque Country. Her entire scientific career has been dedicated to cancer research. She spent 4 years in the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) in Heidelberg (Germany), studying new molecular markers for ovarian cancer. After obtaining her PhD she moved to the Spanish Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in Madrid, as a postdoctoral fellow (MINECO) at Lymphoma Group, where she collaborated in numerous projects focused on molecular markers of B cell lymphomas. During this period she also collaborated with the Spanish pharmaceutical company PharmaMar S.A., studying the applicability of antineoplastic marine products in the treatment of different neoplasms. In 2007 she was awarded with a Miguel Servet Contract from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, and she focused her research in the study of miRNAs expression in B-cell lymphomas. In 2011 she moved to IDIVAL, where she continues her work on molecular biology of lymphomas, studying mutational profiles for personalized therapy. Currently she is supported by the Asociación Española contra el Cáncer (aecc) as a Senior Researcher in the Translational Hematopathology Lab. She has collaborated as a teacher in the Master Degree in Molecular Oncology (CNIO) (2005-2015), and has supervised 1 doctoral thesis. She was a member of the Red Tematica de Investigación Cooperativa en Cáncer-RTICC (Hematological tumors Program) (2007-2017), and currently she is a member of the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red-Cancer (CIBERONC). She has published more than 40 articles indexed in PubMed and has registered 4 patents. Her H index is 24 (ISI web of knowledge- Oct 2017).
