Currículum vitae

Camilo Palazuelos is a research associate at IDIVAL, where he is responsible for the statistical monitoring of the MIRCAST project since 2019. He holds a doctorate in Computer Science and a master's degree in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Cantabria. As part of his academic training, he has visited various European research groups, such as the Distributed Sensor Systems Group (Philips Research Eindhoven), the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (University of Oxford), and the Biomarkers and Susceptibility Unit (Catalan Institute of Oncology). His main research interest is explainable artificial intelligence as an interface between clinical prediction models and medical decision-making, especially in the surgical sciences. He is the principal investigator of the ARCEUS project (2021–23), whose goal is to predict intra-abdominal infections after colorectal surgery both early and safely by combining machine learning and knowledge representation techniques. Camilo has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference papers, and has an H-index of 10 (Google Scholar).
