María Isabel Pérez Núñez is Associate professor Professor of Surgery III (Orthopaedics, Traumatology and Neurosurgery) and Hospital Medical-Surgical internships at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Cantabria, and Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital in Santander, Spain. She holds a PhD in Medicine and Surgery (Cum Laude) and a Master’s Degree in Biomechanics and Foot Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid. Accredited by ANECA as University Profesor in Health Sciences, she has directed eight doctoral theses (all with Cum Laude distinction), more than 30 undergraduate research projects, and co-directed national and regional research projects funded by the Carlos III Health Institute. Former President of the SCLECARTO (2021–2024) and Member of the Board of the Spanish Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SECOT) and examiner at the national EBOT exam. She has authored over 130 scientific publications—16 in Q1 journals—and presented more than 400 communications at national and international congresses. His main professional focus has been spinal surgery, polytrauma patients, bone infection related to fractures and nonunions and fragility fractures, along with a strong commitment to teaching and specialized medical training. His current research focuses on the role of MSCs in the treatment of nonunions.
