Raquel García López

From 2015 Dr Raquel García is working as a Post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology of the University of Cantabria. She is a member of Dr. JF Nistal’s group from IDIVAL since 2010. Dr García is the researcher responsible for the preclinical aspects of the group's projects and for the integration between the experimental results and those obtained in patients. Her research is focused in citokyne-related molecular mechanisms in the pathological tissue plasticity of the cardiovascular system, mainly interested in myocardial remodeling under pressure overload. Between 2012 and 2015 she hold a post-doctoral Marie Curie Research Fellowship at the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences of the University of Glasgow. Throughout the 30 months of this tenure in Glasgow, she was involved in the study of vascular physiopathology disorders contributing to the development of therapeutics in the context of viral vectors, that modified the expression of specific non-coding RNAs for the treatment of those diseases. Furthermore, she finished her PhD in 2011 (Sobresaliente Cum Laude) at the Department of Inmunology, Microbiology and Parasitology of University of Basque Country. She was awarded with a 4 years FPI grant from the Instituto Nacional de Investigación Agroalimentaria (INIA). Before starting her PhD, she was granted with an internship from the Basque Regional Government (Nov 2004-Jan 2006) to collaborate as post-graduate researcher at the Biotechnology Department of the Technological Institute Gaiker (Vizcaya) with a stay of 4 months at the Faculty of Applied Sciences in the University of the West of England (Bristol). Dr García has been collaborating in more than 10 R&D projects (national and international calls) being Principal Investigator of three of them (Grant4targets from Bayer company and two projects from IDIVAL). Moreover she has published a total of 19 original research papers in SCI journals, 11 of them in Q1 and 8 of them in D1. She has submitted more than 20 presentations to international conferences and collaborated in the writing of a book chapter.
