Born in Pamplona and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra and Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Cantabria. Master's Degree in Health Services Management from the University of Cantabria. Associate professor at the University of Cantabria. Accredited for the membership of the faculty of university professors by ANECA. Specialist in Pathology with preferential dedication to cardiac pathology and respiratory system, Nephropathology, Pathology of transplantation and molecular pathology. He works at the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital of Santander as a Chief of the Molecular Pathology Unit and Head of the Pathology and Molecular Pathology Research Group at Marqués de Valdecilla Research Institute (IDIVAL). Responsible for the development and realization of molecular biomarkers for personalized medicine in oncology with preferential development of those related to lung cancer. Author of 186 communications to national and international congresses. Invited speaker in 163 ocasions. Author of 155 international publications and 17 book chapters and director of 11 doctoral theses. Principal investigator in 22 funded projects. President of the Pulmonary Pathology Group of the Spanish Society of Pathological Anatomy from 2004 to 2009. Coordinator of the National Consensus of the Spanish Societies of Pneumology, Radiology and Pathology for the diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis and the National Consensus of the Spanish Societies of Medical Oncology and Pathology for the implantation of Biomarkers in Lung Cancer. President of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Society of Pathological Anatomy.
